Most people ask us some time or other, “Was this office built as a house?” Though it sits at the head of a residential block, and looks a bit like one, it wasn’t. In 1947 a Dr. Faulkner had our lovely Frank Lloyd Wright-style gem built as a dental office. At the time, a city trolley took passengers from our bustling downtown area right past our office to the main Waldo intersection of 75th Street and Wornall Rd. Dr. Faulkner DDS practiced here until 1973 when Dr. C.P. Western DDS bought the building and moved his growing practice here from a space at 63rd and Troost. I still hear stories from patients about how Dr. Western had this place decked out from top to bottom in all things brown and orange, complete with orange curtains. Ah, the seventies!
Most of the houses in the nearby neighborhoods were built in the years from the 1920’s and the 1940’s. They are all unique and beautiful, covered with stone, brick, stucco and charm. One of the best parts about being in this neighborhood are the 100+ years old trees that line these streets. A drive down 70th Terrace in the fall will take your breath away! The rich history in this area is something appreciated by all in our neighborhood practice. If you have memorable stories of the ‘hood, do share!
